Email Fraud Alert

Charlottetown Police Services are currently investigating a fraud involving a local business. Fraud is precipitated by the utilization of email. Unsuspecting employee receives an email from management indicating that a money transfer be made to an overseas account; in this investigation China. Email in fact is an internet based email account (Yahoo/Hotmail/Gmail), however the name attached to account is associated to manager/owner of business. The employee thinking it is an email from management, not looking at email extension, proceeds to forward transfer in good faith. In this investigation there was an attempt to defraud in the amount of $80, was defrauded of in excess of $80,000.
