Charlottetown Police Services wish to warn the public of a surge in phone scams over the last few days.
Numerous residents have been receiving calls from a 1-800 number over the last few days. As with many previous scams, the caller informs the potential victim that he or she owes money and that if they don’t pay, Police will go arrest them.
The caller is aggressive and attempts to scare the person into believing that they must pay immediately or will face arrest.
So far no one has been defrauded out of any money, and all have simply hung up on the caller.
Should you have received this type of call, you may wish to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, or visit their website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
If you have fell victim to this scam by sending money, please report it to your local Police of jurisdiction.
