Charlottetown Police Services have charged three drivers with driving offences over the last 36 hours.

File: 2024395697 – At approximately 10:25 pm Tuesday night (March 26), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint from an off duty Summerside Police Officer reporting a possible impaired driver on St Peters Road.  The off duty Officer continued to follow the vehicle as it crossed the Hillsborough Bridge and parked in a business parking lot on the Stratford Road.  Charlottetown Police Officers caught up to the vehicle in the parking lot and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol, but was not above the legal limit, however, he was prohibited from driving a vehicle under the criminal code.

A 48  year old Kensington male was charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and his vehicle has been impounded for 6 months.

File: 2024400671 – At approximately 9:20 pm last  night (March 27),  Officers were alerted via the Charlottetown Police License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, that a vehicle that had been previously reported as driving erratically and suspect of impairment, was on St Peters Road heading into the City.  An Officer that was in the area was able to locate the vehicle and pulled it over on Northridge Parkway.    The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 43 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over twice the legal limit.

File: 2024401345 – At approximately 12:20 am this morning (March 28),  Police responded to an impaired driver complaint on Kent Street.   The vehicle was located on Dresden Court and the responding Officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 46 year old Charlottetown female was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over twice the legal limit.

All charged individuals will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public  to  plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The Police Service wishes to thank concerned citizens for reporting possible impaired drivers.   The public is encouraged to report instances of suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
