At 12:30 am on Saturday morning (Jan 23), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a single vehicle collision that occurred on the Lower Malpeque Road. The vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole, then continued through two residential yards and came to rest against a tree. The vehicle sustained significant damage. The driver was treated by IEMS for minor facial scrapes and cuts but did not require further medical attention. Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.
A 32 year old Summerside male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after he provided breath samples that were three times the legal limit. The accused was lodge in jail overnight and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
