Charlottetown Police Services responded to six complaints of Impaired Driving between new years eve and new years day. One has resulted with charges, the other is pending toxicology results.
File: 20211928081 – At approximately 5:50 pm Friday afternoon (Dec 31), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a driver that appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in a business parking lot on Mount Edward Road.
Officers attended and located the vehicle. While interacting with the driver, Police determined that he displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was arrested. An officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) confirmed the driver was under the influence of drugs and made the demand that a blood sample be provided.
A 53 year old Charlottetown male was released from custody with a 90 day driving prohibition order. Impaired driving charges are pending the blood sample toxicology results.
File: 20211929638 – Just past midnight on Saturday morning (Jan 1), Officers observed a vehicle speeding on Upper Prince Street and pulled it over. While interacting with the driver, the Officer determined that he was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.
A 26 year old York, PEI male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
