Charlottetown Police Services responded to twenty nine (29) possible impaired driving complaints over the Holiday period from Friday Dec 22nd to Jan 2nd.  Seven of those have resulted in charges and two others are pending toxicology results.

File: 20231874031 – At approximately 4:55 pm Friday afternoon (Dec 22), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Murchison Lane.  The vehicle was located and pulled over near Enman Crescent.  Officers determined that the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.   A 49 year old Alma, PEI male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

File: 20231879698 – At approximately 8:40 pm Saturday night (Dec 23),  Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on the Arterial Highway   Officers located the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 71 year old Charlottetown  male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

File: 20231881180 – At approximately 4:30 am Sunday morning (Dec 24),  Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on University Ave.   The vehicle was located and Officers determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 32 year old Cornwall male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over twice the legal limit.

File: 20231898784 – At 7:35 pm Thursday night (Dec 28), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male passed out at the wheel of his vehicle on MacRae Drive.  Upon arrival, Police observed a vehicle stationary in the middle of the road with engine running.  The driver was slumped over the center console.  The driver was awakened by Police, and it was determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was arrested.  A Charlottetown Police Officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) confirmed the driver was under the influence of drugs and made the demand that a blood sample be provided. During the course of the investigation, Police located a can of bear spray, brass knuckles, a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine tablets and other drug paraphernalia.  A 43 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.  In relation to the impaired by drug matter, the vehicle has been impounded for 30 days, the accused was given a 90 day driving prohibition order and the Impaired driving charge is pending the blood sample toxicology results.

File: 20231899868 – At approximately 00:45 am Friday morning (Dec 29),  while on routine patrol, a vehicle was pulled over for erratic driving on North Queen Elizabeth Drive.  The Officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested. A 22 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were almost twice the legal limit.

File: 20231904660 – At approximately 00:10 am Saturday morning (Dec 30), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on University Ave.  Officers located the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 29 year old Point Prim PEI female was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were twice the legal limit.

File: 20231905042 – At approximately 02:05 am Saturday morning (Dec 30), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Kent St.  Officers located the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 19 year old Nova Scotia female was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were above the legal limit.

File: 20231912302 – At approximately 8:40 pm Sunday night (Dec 31), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Allen St.  Officers located the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 23 year old Charlottetown female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over twice the legal limit.

File: 2024228 – At approximately 1:40 am Monday morning (Jan 1), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on St Peters Road.  Officers located the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  Breath samples were not an option in this case and the driver was taken to the QEH to provide blood samples.   In this case, Impaired driving charges are pending the blood sample toxicology results.

All charged individuals will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

For the 2023 year, Charlottetown Police have charged 95 persons with either impaired driving by alcohol, drugs or refusing to provide breath samples. In the previous year, 2022, there were 91 persons charged.

Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public  to  plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.  The Police Service wishes to thank concerned citizens for reporting possible impaired drivers.   The public is encouraged to report instances of suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
