On Oct 28th, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a theft complaint on Grafton Street.  The complainant informed Police that her son’s new $300 running shoes were stolen from the entrance of a dentist office.   The responding Officer made a request to the Charlottetown Police Dispatcher to check Police E-Watch video surveillance in the area to see if it capture the suspect.    E-Watch did in fact capture the suspect on Weymouth Street wearing the stolen shoes.  Officers located the suspect a short time later at the intersection of Kent Street and Great George and arrested him after a brief struggle. A 51 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with theft under $5000, resist arrest and breach of probation.  He was later released from custody.

On Oct 29th at 8:15am, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male defecating on the sidewalk on Queen Street. The incident was captured on Police E-Watch and assisted Police in locating the same suspect from the previous day on Grafton Street where he was arrested without incident.  The same male, a 51 year old Charlottetown male was charged with indecent act, mischief under $5000, causing a disturbance and breach of probation.   He was remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court tomorrow.

The Charlottetown Police Services E-watch surveillance system has proven itself to be an extremely effective tool by providing invaluable evidence to all Law Enforcement on PEI.  E-Watch and ALPR evidence has led  to numerous criminal code charges, has been effective with locating missing persons or persons suffering from mental health emergencies and has provided evidence for of a variety of Highway Traffic Act infractions.
