Charlottetown Police Services responded to several possible impaired driving complaints over the weekend, four of which resulted in charges.
At 2:00 am Saturday morning, Police responded to a single vehicle collision complaint at the Norwood Road/St Peters Road round about . Police located one vehicle that had been driving south/west on St Peters Road towards the Arterial Highway and failed to negotiate the round about striking the curb and causing the vehicle to leave the road and come to rest on the shoulder. The vehicle lost a wheel from the impact and the driver was not injured.
Officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle and determined that he showed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested. A 22 year old Summerside male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after proving breath samples that were above the legal limit.
While at this collision scene, another Officer was speaking with a witness that came upon the collision, he noticed that the witness also displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and arrested him for impaired driving. A 21 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired driving after providing breath samples that were above the legal limit.
At 2:00 am Sunday morning, while on routine patrol, Officers observed a vehicle speeding on University Avenue. The vehicle was pulled over on the Lower Malpeque Road and Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested. A 31 year old Charlottetown male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after proving breath samples that were above the legal limit.
At 2:10 am Sunday morning, while on routine patrol, Officers observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner on Great George Street. The vehicle was pulled over on Queen Street and the Officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and arrested him. A 40 year old Alberta male has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after proving breath samples that were 4 times the legal limit.
All individuals charged individual have been released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public to plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.
