On Sunday morning (Dec 15), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a report of a male and female going through vehicles in the area of Dresden Court and Hawthorn Avenue. As Officers made their way to the area, the Charlottetown Police Dispatchers accessed the E-Watch camera system and were able to locate the suspects on live video in the area of Fitzroy Street and Esher Street. Officers attended that area, located the two suspects and placed them under arrest without incident.
The initial investigation led Officers to several other locations that had fallen victim to the same type of offence overnight.
A 42 year old Charlottetown female has been charged with a single count of theft under $5000. She was later released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
40 year old Michael Arthur Gaudet from Charlottetown, has been charged with:
- Theft under $5000 x6
- Breach of Probation x5
- Trespass at Night x2
The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date. The accused is a Prolific Offender accumulating 128 previous criminal code convictions over the last 20 years. Charlottetown Police Services are committed to keeping Charlottetown and PEI residents safe by focusing its efforts on targeting Prolific Offenders to minimize crime and victimization.
Police would like to remind the public to take some effective and simple preventative measures to minimize theft from vehicles such as:
- Do not leave valuables such as purses, wallets and electronic devices in vehicles
- Always keep your doors locked
Residents are also encouraged to immediately report suspicious activity to Police. Police again credit the public for this arrest. This is the second time in the last month, that concerned citizens have called Police to report suspicious activity and that has led to arrests and charges. Police cannot be everywhere all the time, by working together with Island residents, we all do our part in keeping our communities safe.
