While on routine patrol last night at approximately 10:55pm, an Officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on the Arterial Highway. The vehicle did not stop for the Officer and for public safety reasons the Officer discontinued the attempted traffic stop.
Officers were assisted by the Charlottetown Police Communications Centre whom were able to located the suspect vehicle using the Police Services E-Watch camera system and provided Officers with real time location and direction of travel. A short time later, a second Officer made contact with the vehicle and pulled it over on Walker Drive.
The driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.
A 21 year old Stratford male was subsequently charged with impaired driving after providing breath samples that were almost three times the legal limit. The accused was released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date. The flight from Police investigation is ongoing and may result in future charges.
Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public to plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.
