On September 16, 2025, Charlottetown Police Services (CPS) received a report of a care worker, operating under the company name Freedom First Home Care, had defrauded a Charlottetown senior of more than $200,000.
The investigation, led by the Major Crime Unit, spanned five months, and confirmed the senior’s care work, Sandra Dawn Henderson, a 53-year-old self-employed resident care worker, had made numerous transactions into her personal account over a two-year period.
On February 11, 2026, Henderson was arrested and charged with:
- Fraud over $5,000 (s. 380 CCC)
She was released on conditions and will appear in court on May 7, 2026.

- monitor accounts: review bank statements regularly.
- background checks: thoroughly check references before hiring care giver support.
- stay involved: regularly visit or call to stay aware of the senior’s situation.
