Charlottetown Police Services is warning residents and visitors about bicycle thefts taking place in the community. The department has received a number of recent reports that bicycles, even when locked, are being stolen from vehicle bike racks and public areas.
How to protect your bike:
- Never leave your bike unlocked or unattended
- Secure your bike with a chain lock or u-lock
- Lock at least one wheel and the frame to a fixed object
- Take a photo of your bike and the serial number
- Add a tracking device to your bike
- Lock and store your bicycle indoors – do not leave it unattended on the vehicle car rack for an extended period of time
Residents can also register their bike with the Charlottetown Police Services. In the event that your bike is stolen, it can easily and quickly be identified and returned to you.
