At approximately 1:50 am on Sunday morning (Aug 21), Police were flagged down by several people indicating that they had just been pepper sprayed by someone in a vehicle driving by.
It was learned that earlier in the night, a verbal argument had taken place at a local drinking establishment. A short time later, while walking on Water Street, a vehicle drove by and the passenger sprayed some type of irritant (believed to be being bear spray) onto three of the victims and continued to drive away. Two other victims that were also involved with the same suspects reported to Police that they too were sprayed by an irritant at the intersection of Great George and Water Streets.
Police arrested both suspects an hour later. A 20 year old female and 19 year old male, both from Charlottetown were subsequently charged with assault with a weapon and released with conditions. They will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
