Charlottetown Police Services have charged a male in connection to a stolen vehicle file reported yesterday.
Police responded to a theft of a motor vehicle from a residence on Southdale Avenue yesterday morning. The keys had been left inside the vehicle overnight and when the owner woke up, he noticed it had been stolen. Officers kept watch for it throughout the day and located it around 5:00pm in the area of Euston/Edwards Streets. A witness gave Police the description of a male that was seen a short time earlier inside the vehicle. That same male was observed by other responding Officers riding a bicycle on Longworth Avenue during that same time period. The male was arrested and keys to the stolen vehicle were found in his possession. Police were also able to determine that the bicycle his was riding had also been stolen earlier in the day from a residence on York Lane.
A 33 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime (vehicle)
- Possession of property obtained by crime (bicycle)
- Driving while prohibited
- Breach of Probation
The investigation is ongoing, additional charges may be laid as Police are in the process of determining if other seized items have been stolen. Residents are asked to report any recent thefts from vehicle or property.
The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court tomorrow.
The accused is a Prolific Offender accumulating 45 previous convictions for similar offences since 2010. He was just released from jail on previous convictions a month ago.
