At 12:15 yesterday afternoon (Mar 19), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a shoplifting complaint on Grafton Street involving a female that had just left the store.
With the assistance of the Police E-Watch video surveillance system, the female suspect was observed on camera and Officers were directed to her location on Richmond Street. Officers made contact with the suspect and upon arrest, the female resisted arrest and assaulted the Officer and then attempted to flee but was restrained by the Officer. During the course of the investigation, Police learned that the female had been inside another business and had stolen an item and purposely broken merchandise in that store. The Officer did not sustain any injuries during the assault.
A 32 year old Charlottetown female has been charged two (2) counts of theft under five thousand dollars, mischief under fiver thousand dollars, causing a disturbance, assault on Police Officer and six (6) counts of breach of Probation.
The accused was remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
