Scam Alert (Tuesday May 4th) – Police wish to warn the public that phone scams are making their rounds today (more then usual).
Police have received 8 complaints today already.
Call display shows PEI Gov or a local number. Once you answer, a pre-recorded message will play indicating that your SIN has been compromised and to press 1. It then may ask you to confirm with a voice prompt. JUST HANG UP.
Should you have received this type of call, you may wish to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, or visit their website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
If you have fell victim to this scam by sending money, please report it to your local Police of jurisdiction.
