At 1:15 am Saturday morning, Charlottetown Police Services responded to an assistance call from the Charlottetown Fire Department. The Fire Department reported a suspicious fire that occurred in one apartment at a residential building on the Lower Malpeque Road. The fire was minimal and consisted mostly of smoke from a pot that was on the stove. Nobody was injured or needed medical attention. Once the smoke cleared, Officers noticed that the apartment had been broken into and a significant amount of damage was done.
A 46 year old Charlottetown male was arrested at the scene and has been charged with break and enter, mischief under $5000 and arson. He remains in custody and will appear in Provincial Court later today.
